Ken’s Craft Talk and Reed’s Exchange Update
Frank’s son, Reed, shared his Rotary international exchange experience in Denmark. He has already made plenty of friends from all over the world and learned enough Danish to thrive at school. Most importantly, he’s learned to be independent and solve problems.
Our newest member, Ken, shared his life’s journey with us and his passion for service. He is the blood product transport specialist and disaster relief coordinator for the Red Cross, after retiring from teaching for more than three decades.
District 5320 Leadership Forum
Kiran, Les, and our newest member, Ken, participated in the leadership forum in Fountain Valley. We learned about ways to contribute to the relief effort for the victims of the ongoing wildfire in LA, strategy for membership growth, and raising money for the Rotary Foundation through the Rotary Endowment. Les also presented a refresher overview of the Rotary Action Plan, with Anabella helping by illustrating the power of the Action Plan through a networking project involving the UC Irvine Rotaract club.
Starbucks Cleanup
Undeterred by the raging fire north of us, members of the Signal Hill Rotary cleaned up the area surrounding our meeting location at the corner of Long Beach Blvd and Willow Street. Featured in the photos are two of the hardest working attorneys in our club. The customers at Starbucks may not be tidy, but we Rotarians are cleaning up our neighborhood, one coffee cup at a time.
City of Signal Hill Leadership Transition
Les, Kiran, and Ihor attended the City of Signal Hill leadership transition this evening and also honored Mayor Lori Woods for her tireless dedication to serving her city.
Welcome Ken
We officially welcomed Ken into our club as our newest member. Ken has been active in many of our events and easily connected with many of our members. We look forward to years of serving the community with him.
Starbucks Cleanup
We are grateful for Starbucks to provide us with a comfortable meeting place every week free of charge.
As a gesture of our appreciation, we gathered together to clean up the area surrounding their store this morning.
District 5320 Gala
Rotarians from across LA and Orange County assembled at Hotel Fera to raise money for polio eradication and humanitarian projects in our local communities and across the globe. The keynote speaker was Barry Rassin, past RI president and RI Foundation chair. We also enjoyed performance by the Grammy winning Los Angeles Children’s Chorus.
Our gift basket garnered $150 for the district and four potential participants for the Mutt Run.
Chamber of Commerce Mixer Benefiting WomenShelter of Long Beach
Collaborating with the Signal Hill Chamber of Commerce, Signal Hill Rotary recruited members and community organizers to a mixer at the Ten Mile Brewing Company. Together, we collected donation for the WomenShelter and raised awareness of future events at the Shelter.
Jordan Interact Presentation
Ricardo and Jose from the Jordan Interact Club joined our meeting and presented their recent projects.
Alma from the Long Beach Animal Care Services also discussed the different ways they will be collaborating with us for the Mutt Run.
Pacmin Studios Tour
Welcoming new members to Rotary, past district governor Dan personally led a tour of his company and explained the process of making extremely detailed models of airplanes big and small. Ken and Les joined a group of Rotarians and authors while a new Rotary club is being formed.
