Jordan Interact Club Fair
The Jordan Interact Club had a successful fundraiser at the fall club fair this week. The agua fresca was a hit, and it was quickly sold out!
Kudos to Ricardo for leading the effort and the club graphics designer for the professional-looking signs.
Long Beach Pet Fair
Representing the Signal Hill Rotary Club at the third annual Long Beach Pet Fair, Kedra, Bethany, Frank, Les, and Kiran promoted our own annual Mutt Run to a community of pet lovers. Jose organized the event but unfortunately got injured while preparing for the fair. Les’s son, Scott, also volunteered and helped taking down the booth at the completion of the festival.
Kedra saved the day when Jose became injured and set up our club’s booth on opening day, and Bethany brought a table to the booth right after finishing a half-marathon. Many participants were excited to learn about the Mutt Run, and numerous vendors signed up to be at our race.
Women’s Shelter of Long Beach Vigil
Frank and Ken joined a community of caring neighbors to honor and remember the victims of domestic violence in Long Beach.
Women’s Shelter Visits Rotary
Jen and Kim from the Women’s Shelter of Long Beach visited our club to share the important work they do to help victims of domestic violence. We also learned the preventative measures that could prevent future victims and perpetrators.

Preventing Suicides with Norooz Clinic
Led by Nina Huynh, Norooz provides the communities in Orange County and South Bay with affordable mental health care. Members from multiple Rotary Clubs, including the North East Orange County and Signal Hill Rotary, met at the Bungalow in Long Beach to raise money and awareness on mental health issues.
District Leadership Forum
The Interactors from Jordan High joined Rotarians at the second district forum of this year at Fountain Valley, where we learned about the art of fundraising.
Interact Kick-Off at Straw Hat Pizza
As the youth activities chair at Signal Hill Rotary, Rey organized an event at Straw Hat Pizza to give the Rotarians an opportunity to meet the Interactors from Sato Academy and Jordan High School. It was also a chance for the Rotarians to thank the parents of the Interactors in supporting the students.
Rotary Cleans up California Coast
All along the long stretch of coastline in California, Rotarians joined Interactors and other volunteer organizations to clean up the beaches on a beautiful Saturday morning. Each equipped with a grabber, Rey and his son joined Les at Junipero Beach to pick up trash on the sand while pondering about the sources of the Styrofoam and plastic pieces.
Inaugural Meeting of Jordan Interact
Inspired by his experience at RYLA, Ricardo set in motion to establish the first Interact club at Jordan High School. Rey helped to coordinate with the district to find the resources possible to set up the club, and Frank was present to celebrate the first meeting.
The first service project of the club is to make and distribute crochet animals this winter to people in need around the world. Signal Hill Rotary is sponsoring the cost of the crochet materials and the prize for the raffle.
