Rotary Exchange Program
Stephanie Witkowski reminded us of the opportunities offered by Rotary International to have high school students travel abroad to experience another culture. In return, American Rotarians will host foreign students in the US.
Rotary at the Grand Prix
Derek Brown invited members of the Signal Hill Rotary Club to volunteer at the Long Beach Grand Prix along with other members of the Committee of 300. Jose, Kiran, Fredy, and Les joined a few past club members to facilitate ticketing and crowd control at the event.
The best part is that volunteers get a front-row seat of the race and enjoyed each others’ company at the event. This is also a tremendous opportunity for the two organizations to collaborate on projects in the future.
Derek Brown and the Committee of 300
Derek, the president of the Committee of 300, offered us the opportunity to volunteer for the Long Beach Grand Prix.
We welcomed Jesse Rivera into our club as our newest member. Past district governor Greg Owen was present to celebrate with us. He will update us on the status of Rotary’s End Polio campaign next week.
Easter Egg Hunt with Long Beach Rotary
President Les volunteered at the Easter egg hunt at the Rotary Centennial Park with members of the Long Beach Rotary Club.
A concurrent bookfair also drew a crowd from the surrounding neighborhood.
Sip and Paint with Sante Fe Springs Rotary
President Les attended the first fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Norwalk/Sante Fe Springs. While the attendees enjoyed tacos, wine, and the pleasure of each other’s company, Claudia taught everyone how to create their own piece of art.
Together, we raised money to fund scholarship for future RYLA students.
Les Visits Rotary Club of Rizal West in the Philippines
President Les was the guest speaker at the evening Rotary meeting of Rizal West in the Philippines this morning (the meeting started at 4:00 am Pacific Time).
Palos Verdes Hike
Ihor, Rosanna, Les, Les’ good dermatologist friend, and Les’ dog River soaked in nature early Sunday morning in the blustery hillside of Palos Verdes.
It was crisp and clear, with visibility all the way to Catalina Island. The hills were alive with wild flowers, blooming vibrantly after the waves of atmospheric rivers that swept through Southern California.
After the hike, we reconvened at the Nook in Lomita and had the privilege of hearing the remarkable life of Iris Critchell—Olympian, pioneer aviator, and flight instructor to the astronauts.
District Training at Chapman
We had another engaging and entertaining district training day for Rotary district 5320. We gathered at the Chapman Law School early Saturday morning and learned as much from the speakers as from each other about the best way to run our clubs and promote Rotary so we can brighten our future together.
Les Visits Lakewood Rotary
To promote the Rotary Cultural Exchange trip to Taiwan in May, Les visited Lakewood Rotary to recruit additional ambassadors for the trip.
