Halloween Dog Parade
Taking advantage of having the perfect target audience for the Mutt Run, Les squeezed some time in between patients and distributed flyers at the Halloween parade at Marina Vista Park. He was able to recruit several sponsors for the Mutt Run as well.
Wine Tasting with Los Alamitos Rotary
An evening of wining, dining, and enjoying the company of fellow Rotarians, Los Alamitos and Seal Beach Rotary raised money for their community projects. Les Young and his wife Sherry Hom volunteered to pour wine and learn a thing or two on the best way to open wine bottles.
Bob Long’s Memorial
We celebrated Bob Long’s long life, full of love, kindness, and generosity. All those around him benefited from his wisdom. Being the quintessential strong and silent type, Bob said less himself than all those around him said about Bob. Even at his memorial service, we’re still learning more amazing things about Bob from each other.
He was a Rotarian, an animal lover, a philanthropist, a pilot, and a proud oil man. Most of all, he’s the most decent human being we have ever come across. We are honored to title our signature Rotary event in his namesake—the Bob Long Memorial Mutt Run.
There will never be another Bob Long, and the world is dimmer without him.
Give Us Givsum
Shawn from Givsum gave us a summary of the collaboration between Rotary district 5320 and the fundraising toolkit. In the process, we established new connections and relationships for future collaborating opportunities. Shawn is also the head of marketing for the district, and the marketing department will provide a photographer and videographer for our Mutt Run event on February 18th, 2023.
We also welcomed a potential new member of our club, Liz Guerrini, at our meeting.
Rotary District 5320 Gala
Ending polio, providing clean water, equipping school supplies, and supporting foster children are just a few things Rotarians are raising money for. It was also a night of fellowship, surprisingly good food, and swinging jazz. Randy and Marianne Hartshorn joined Les at the table.
WomenShelter of Long Beach
Rotarian Frank Dunnick, Jose Quintanilla, and Les Young with their spouses attended the gala of the WomenShelter of Long Beach at the Pacific Gallery in downtown Long Beach to raise awareness and fund to support the victims of domestic violence.
Signal Hill Community Foundation
More than half of our club was present at the fundraising event for Signal Hill Community Foundation. We sampled food from popular establishments in Signal Hill while feasting our eyes on the creations of local artists, all to support community projects in Signal Hill.
Chartering of Rotary PEN OC/LA Club
Ernie Delfin worked tirelessly for the past 18 months to assemble a group of Rotarians to form the new PEN OC/LA Rotary Club. The club consists of members from all over the world, including Philippines, Turkey, and Ukraine.
Governor Dan Ouweleen and his wife Susan graciously hosted the chartering event in their backyard.
Fall Club Social
We enjoyed another lovely club social at Ten Mile Brewing Company, celebrating the fall weather with good pizza and beer while being sucked dry by vicious mosquitoes.
